29 Of Steam Users Have Switched To Windows 11

A little more than a year has passed since the latest Microsoft-designed operating system, Windows 11, has been officially released to the public.

Steam is by far the most popular gaming store/interface/platform in the world.
Valve published documents revealing that more Steam users run Windows 11.
Even though Windows 10 is the OS of choice, almost 30% of people switched.

Since then, Microsoft has been hard at work improving the new OS and enhancing the user experience across the board.

A lot more Steam users upgraded to Windows 11

You might not know yet, but Valve has published the latest results of its monthly Hardware & Software Survey, which shows dominant preferences among Steam customers.

In fact, every month, Valve runs a voluntary survey to gather information about PC configurations its customers use to access Steam.

And, of course, this data helps developers optimize their games to reach as many gamers as possible and make wise investments in different technologies.

Not to mention that Steam Hardware and Software surveys are also a great source of information about various Windows versions and their success among gamers.

This recent survey results show that Windows 11 keeps stealing users from Windows 10 at an ever-growing pace.

According to Valve, in December 2022, Windows 11 reached 28.42%, which is a 0.44 points increase compared to November 2022.

So, for the time being, this is what Valve’s survey actually looks like:

Windows 10 64-bit: 65.42% (-0.18)
Windows 11: 28.42% (+0.44)
Windows 7 64-bit: 1.66% (-0.22)
Windows 8 64-bit: 0.41%
Windows 7 32-bit: 0.11%

This means that, overall, Microsoft’s operating system family keeps holding the market tight with a 96.15% market share (+0.04). Apple is second with 2.48% (+0.03), and Linux is third with 1.38% (-0.06).

As far as hardware preferences go, there are no significant changes compared to the previous month, as you are about to see.

To summarize it for you, Windows 10 64-bit lost only 0.18 points in December 2022, standing at an impressive 65.42% market share.

One of its older cousins, Windows 7 64-bit, experienced a similar decline. The company says the third most popular Windows version on Steam currently has 1.66% (-0.22 points).

Please note that participation in the survey is optional, so the data does not really represent 100% of Steam users.

Although multicore processors from Intel and AMD are affordable like never before, two-thirds of surveyed customers use CPUs with six and four cores.

The bottom line here is that the most popular graphics cards are mid-range and budget models from NVIDIA, which was totally expected.
