Samsung TVs are a great addition to any smart home because they allow you to effortlessly stream your favorite shows from apps such as HBO Max, Apple TV, Netflix, and Disney Plus. Instead of having to buy streaming devices, you can simply put the app on your TV. Every once in a while, though, you might find that an app can stop working. This can be frustrating.

If one of your streaming device apps is not working, you might want to try one of the following:

  • Delete the app and re-download itUpdate the app’s software Reset the Smart Hub on your TVCold boot the TV

You might still be wondering exactly how to do some of the fixes above and get your streaming apps working again. Don’t worry, we will go over all the steps in this article. We will also go over troubleshooting steps to help you know which apps might be having issues.

Deleting Apps and Redownloading

Sometimes the app just needs a simple reboot to get them up and starting again. To delete the app and redownload it, follow these steps:

  • Press the home button to open up the TV’s home screen menu. Go to Apps. Select Settings in the top right corner. Select the app you want to delete. Choose Delete. Choose Delete again to confirm.

Now, let’s take a look at updating the software.

Updating the Software

Apps need to be updated periodically so that you can ensure they work properly. If you don’t update your HBO Max, Apple TV, and other streaming platforms, the apps might crash, and you won’t be able to use them on your TV.

The best way to keep your app software updated is by setting the TV to update them automatically. This will ensure that you don’t have to set reminders. It will also keep your apps from crashing or not working as often.

Follow these steps to automatically update the apps:

  • Press the home button on the remote control. Choose APPS.Move the cursor on the remote to the Settings or Gear icon. Choose Auto Update.Press Enter. Choose Enable.

If you don’t want to manually update your apps, see below for automatic update procedure.

Setting Up Automatic Updates

If you haven’t set up automatic updates and need to check and see if your apps need updates, follow these steps:

  • Press the Smart Hub button. Select Features. Any of the apps that need updating will have a small white arrow in a blue circle. Select Update apps. Click Select All. Select Update.

All the apps that need updating will start automatically. You will be able to see their progress on the bar in the top right corner.

Reset the Smart Hub on the TV

The Smart Hub on Samsung TVs is what controls the apps such as Netflix and Disney Plus.

Resetting it is necessary sometimes to keep the streaming devices working. Follow these steps:

  • Press the home button on the remote control. Use the remote to select Settings. Choose Support. Select Device Care. Choose Self Diagnosis. Choose Reset Smart Hub. Enter the pin for your TV. If you never set one. Use the default 0000.

Cold Booting the TV

Cold booting is not the same as turning it off and then turning it back on. It involves actually shutting down the TV and then rebooting it. This is similar to restarting a laptop or phone. This usually solves any issues you might be having with apps.

There are two main ways to cold boot your TV to hopefully get it working again:

Rebooting with the Remote

You can reboot with the remote by holding down the power button until the TV turns off and on again. This will take about 5 seconds. The TV will turn back on automatically when it’s finished.

Rebooting with the Plug

If you don’t have the remote or can’t use the remote, you unplug the TV directly from the wall outlet. Leave it unplugged for 30 seconds. Plug it back in.

Once you’re finished, try opening one of your streaming apps and see if it’s working now. If it’s still not working, you might need to try one of the other solutions below.

Final Thoughts

Getting streaming apps on your TV like HBO Max, Apple TV, Netflix, and Disney Plus is an easy way to watch all your favorite shows and movies. If you are having trouble with the apps though, it can be hard to use your streaming accounts. Try rebooting the TV, deleting the apps and redownloading them, resetting the Smart Hub, or updating the app’s software.
