In addition to the on-screen keyboard, Windows 10 also ships with a touch-friendly keyboard called touch keyboard. Although the touch keyboard is mostly helpful for users running Windows 10 on a tablet-like Surface Pro or a PC with touch support, users on traditional computers can also use the touch keyboard as an on-screen keyboard.
Enable standard full keyboard layout in touch keyboard
With default settings, the touch keyboard offers two keyboard layouts: default keyboard and split or thumb keyboard. As you can see in the picture below, the normal and split keyboard layouts don’t display keys like Windows logo, Esc, Shift, Function, and Alt keys.
The default touch keyboard layout offers just 40 keys (excluding keyboard layout key), whereas the standard full keyboard layout offers over 65 keys.
If you often need to use the keys mentioned above, you need to enable and use the standard full keyboard layout on the touch keyboard. The standard full keyboard layout is turned off by default and needs to be turned on under Settings.
Enable and use standard full keyboard layout in touch keyboard
Here is how to enable the standard full keyboard layout in the touch screen keyboard in Windows 10.
Step 1: Open Settings app either by clicking or tapping Settings in the left pane of the Start menu or by simultaneously pressing Windows and I keys.
Step 2: Once the Settings app is launched, click or tap the second icon labeled Devices.
Step 3: Click or tap Typing. Under the Touch keyboard section, change the toggle switch under Add the standard keyboard layout as a touch keyboard option to On position. That’s it! You have just enabled and added the standard keyboard to the touch keyboard in Windows 10.
Step 4: Now, open the touch keyboard, click or tap keyboard layout key (see picture below), and then select the full keyboard layout to use the same.
Tip: If you want to add the touch keyboard button to the taskbar for quick access, right-click on the taskbar and then click Show touch keyboard button option.
